A List of Thanks

  1. For the peace of mind that comes with knowing my friends and family are safe, especially when so many are not.
  2. For being able to spend the holidays with my family.
  3. For the fantastic albeit overpriced education I am nonetheless lucky to be receiving.
  4. For my Mom's sinfully good mashed potatoes.
  5. For every book on my ever growing shelves.
  6. For a job that I love and the amazing family it has given me.
  7. For the love and support of an absolutely amazing guy for nearly 5 years.
  8. For the love and gross snapchats of a crazy, sassy, absurdly awesome best friend for literally my entire life.
  9. For Friends marathons with my Mom even though we've seen every episode a thousand times.
  10. For the ability to be a part of amazing online communities like Nerdfighteria, the blogging community, and soon (hopefully) the Youtube community.
  11. And finally, for all of you who are sharing this journey with me.

The Price of Privilege: The Apathy, Denial, and Silence Must End.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. - Martin Luther King Jr

I'll be honest; I don't really know what to say.

Tomorrow Mike Brown's family's Thanksgiving dinner will have a gaping painful empty seat at the table, while the man who killed him will spend it passing mashed potatoes across the table just as he has every year before, without even the looming shadow of a trial date to nag the back of his mind. A mother has lost her son, and the killer gets to live his life as if nothing ever happened.

Sharing the Love: Last Week's Faves

I believe it is important to spread the love around in the blogging community; I know I always feel super good when somebody shares my blog or one of my posts. Who doesn't, right? So I've decided to start sharing some of my favorite posts from other bloggers (hopefully) every week. In no particular order, here are a few posts I loved this week:

5 'Blank Space' Lines That Made Me LOL at The Lady Errant
This comes from one of my favorite blogs in general and this was definitely my favorite from her blog this week. She briefly breaks down some of the gems from Taylor Swift's flawless new single, "Blank Space."

Urban Decay Naked Flushed, Naked 3 and Real Techniques Nic's Picks Brushes at In The Frow
This post left my crying over my bank account because I hella want those brushes. I am also always up for something from Urban Decay!

Nonfiction November Week 3: Diversity & Nonfiction (Transgender) at A Lovely Bookshelf on the Wall
This post was so aptly timed, as I too just posted about the beauty that is non-fiction. This post offers a really fantastic list of non-fiction books centered around the experiences of transgender individuals, which is a very important topic that I don't see covered much. Yay for diversity!

Lets be honest; most of us are guilty of at least 80% of these. An interesting post to make you think at the very least.

Did you find any particularly fantastic posts this week? Why not share them for others to love too?

((I'm planning on making a fancy smancy graphic for these posts but I have had about 1001 internet problems just putting this post together and frankly I just can't be bothered today.))

OOTD: Comfy Cozy

This is my first ever Outfit of the Day post! And let me tell you I suddenly have a whole new respect for fashion bloggers because these types of pictures are awkward to take.

It's snowing here. Like a lot. Like my university was closed yesterday due to weather conditions a lot. There must be already a foot on the ground and it is still coming down. When the weather gets like this I like to be as comfy and warm as possible, especially on days like today when I have to back and forth across campus 20 times. And what better way to achieve this than with a pair of fleece lined leggings and an adorable panda sweater?

The Unloved Step-Child of the Bookstore: How I Embraced Non-Fiction and Why You Should Too

When I was younger I always used to say I preferred fiction to non-fiction because in fiction anything could happen, whereas non-fiction had to play by the rules of reality and therefore there were less possibilities. This was my super sophisticated way of saying at no point in a nonfiction novel was there ever a chance of a dragon showing up, so why bother?

Throughout my college career, however, I have had to read a number of non-fiction stories, most of them memoirs, and I have come to the conclusion that non-fiction is often far more surprising than any fictional plot twist could be. Turns out there are more rules in fiction than reality.

November Ipsy Bag and New Eye Palettes!

I got my November Ipsy Glam Bag yesterday which is always an exciting time. I wanted to try the super obnoxious lip stain that came in my glam bag, and after I put that on I figured I might as well try out all my other new stuff too. Plus I just recently bought a couple new eye shadow palettes that I hadn't gotten a chance to play with yet. Perfect opportunity, right?

Lois Lowry Can See the Future

Sit down everybody because it is story time. You see this book?

I just started reading it last night. *Pauses for wild exclamations of "YOU HAVEN'T READ IT YET?"* Nope I have not. I am often a late comer to the books that take off. It is a pattern in my life, but that is another story.

Sometimes It's Okay to be Content

About a week ago one of my professors had our class fill out a self evaluation form for our performance in the class so far. One of the questions was: "Are you satisfied with you performance so far? If not list 3 things you can do to improve for the rest of the semester."
